United Nations Human Rights Internship 2020 in Geneva is now open for applicants. The interns who selected will work in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The internship initial duration is 3 months, which can be further extended.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Agency responsible for improving international human rights mechanisms; promoting equality and combating discrimination; fighting corruption and ensuring transparency and the rule of law; incorporating human rights into development and the economic sphere; widening the democratic space;
The internal reports to the Human Rights Officer in the assigned work unit are based in Geneva Switzerland, under the overall guidance of the Chief of Section. The internship assignment shall be renewable for an initial duration of three ( 3 ) months, for a cumulative period of six ( 6 ) months, after further approval by the supervisor, and scheduled start date within the first quarter of the coming year, from January 2020 to January 2021.

Intern Duty Station:
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program (i.e. Master’s degree or equivalent degree or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree program (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the fields of law, political science, international rel, in order to qualify for a United Nations Secretariat internship program.
Work Experience Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Secretariat of the United Nations. Fluency in English is required for this internship. Knowledge of Arabic would have been an advantage.
This internship is an UNPAID and full-time commitment that provides a framework through which students from diverse academic backgrounds are exposed to the work of the United Nations through their services within the Secretariat.
Applicants should have demonstrated a strong interest in the work of the United Nations with a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and a demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs – including a willingness to understand and be willing to do so.
